Can I speak to the manager? The gender dynamics of decision-making in Kenyan maize plots

Gender and social inclusion efforts in agricultural development are focused on making uptake of agricultural technologies more equitable. Yet research looking at how gender relations influence technology uptake often assumes that men and women within a household make farm management decisions as individuals. Relatively little is understood about the dynamics of agricultural decision-making within dual-adult households where individuals’ management choices are likely influenced by others in the household. This study used vignettes to examine decision-making related to maize plot management in 698 dual-adult households in rural Kenya. The results indicated a high degree of joint management of maize plots (55%), although some management decisions—notably those related to purchased inputs—were slightly more likely to be controlled by men, while other decisions—including those related to hiring of labor and maize end uses—were more likely to be made by women. The prevalence of joint decision-making underscores the importance of ensuring that both men’s and women’s priorities and needs are reflected in design and marketing of interventions to support maize production, including those related to seed systems, farmer capacity building, and input delivery.

Sobre una solución exacta no lineal de la ecuación Fokker-Planck con término de sumidero

Se resuelve de manera exacta la ecuación Fokker-Planck con un término de sumidero, utilizando la difusividad de Fujita y la relación de Parlange entre la conductividad y difusividad. Para obtener la solución, se introduce primero el potencial de Kirchhoff y enseguida la coordenada móvil de Fujita-Storm; la ecuación diferencial toma la forma de la ecuación de Burgers, que es lineal en el término difusivo. El coeficiente convectivo de esta última se sustituye por la transformación de Hopf-Cole, con la finalidad de deducir la ecuación lineal clásica del calor. Durante las transformaciones, el término de sumidero se define funcionalmente, de modo que el resultado final sea precisamente la ecuación de calor sin término de sumidero. La solución exacta del potencial de Hopf-Cole se obtiene con la transformada clásica de Laplace para algunas condiciones iniciales y de frontera de interés. La solución de la ecuación Fokker-Planck en el espacio físico se obtiene a través de la inversión de las transformaciones utilizadas. La solución incluye como casos particulares las soluciones de Sanders et al., y de Broadbridge y White. La solución exacta puede ser utilizada para validar soluciones numéricas de la ecuación Fokker-Planck y en estudios sobre la extracción de agua por las raíces de las plantas.

Nos habla de la independencia y de las características que puede tener una educación rigurosa y rígida, en contraposición con una más flexible. Lo mismo sucede con el pensamiento desde nuestra América, de la educación dependiente a una educación libertaria.

"Two-photon absorption (TPA), a nonlinear optical phenomenon, is gaining attention for applications like laser scanning, microscopy, and therapy. Recent research explores entangled two photon absorption (ETPA) using correlated photons but faces debates regarding its magnitude and detection. This study introduces a novel method using changes in Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) interferogram visibility to probe ETPA's presence. It employs Rhodamine B dye and entangled photons at around 800nm to investigate conditions conducive to observing ETPA-induced changes. This innovative approach distinguishes genuine ETPA signals from linear optical losses often masquerading as ETPA effects, addressing a significant field challenge."

A Comparison of Multi-Label Text Classification Models in Research Articles Labeled With Sustainable Development Goals

"The classification of scientific articles aligned to Sustainable Development Goals is crucial for research institutions and universities when assessing their influence in these areas. Machine learning enables the implementation of massive text data classification tasks. The objective of this study is to apply Natural Language Processing techniques to articles from peer-reviewed journals to facilitate their classification according to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. This article compares the performance of multi-label text classification models based on a proposed framework with datasets of different characteristics. The results show that the combination of Label Powerset (a transformation method) with Support Vector Machine (a classification algorithm) can achieve an accuracy of up to 87% for an imbalanced dataset, 83% for a dataset with the same number of instances per label, and even 91% for a multiclass dataset."
