In research in Mathematics Education, models have been reported to analyze mathematical connections in which specific connection categories are considered. In the literature, it was identified that the most used model is the Businskas with contributions from other researchers. However, the problem refers to the fact that some categories of connections limit the analysis of mathematical activity and, therefore, the research suggests that the established categories are validated and, if possible, new categories of connections are reported. Other investigations focused on exploring mathematical connections and understanding the derivative reveal that high school students, pre-service teachers, and some in-service mathematics teachers have difficulty connecting multiple representations of the derivative (e.g., algebraic, or symbolic, verbal, graphic, tabular) and establish connections between partial meanings about this concept.

Ontology development for knowledge representation of a metrology lab

Digital transformation in metrology is impacting the industry, where accurate and fair data are essential to take enterprises to the next level in the digital era. The amount and complexity of information are growing exponentially, and expert knowledge becomes imperative for users to perform measurement tasks and decision-making. This study presents the development of a modular metrological inspection ontology for a metrology laboratory based on the reuse of ontologies related to sensors and units of measurement. Such an ontology considers information about operators and customers (name, telephone number, email) and the linkage to service orders, pieces (length, height, width), measurement strategies (expert notes about measurement procedures and paths), and measuring machines (measuring scope, uncertainty, sensor probe). The proposed solution delivers a digitalized catalog that allows the user to filter records according to the geometrical characteristics of the pieces and recover notes related to measurement procedures and paths for similar cases. The purpose is to promote knowledge sharing and narrow the gap to achieve digital transformation toward Metrology 4.0 in laboratories prepared to offer metrological support.

Este trabajo hace una revisión del texto El campo de la semiótica visual. De los sistemas a las prácticas semióticas realizado por la Dra. Julieta Haidar en la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Azcapotzalco (UAM-A). El objetivo es señalar la relevancia que tiene el Modelo semiótico-discursivo transdisciplinario como aproximación teórico-metodológica para la comprensión del Diseño de la Comunicación Gráfica (DCG). La propuesta consiste en revisar los principales conceptos del Modelo expuestos por la autora en el citado texto y recuperar la memoria de las ideas formuladas en relación con la semiótica desde la División de Ciencias y Artes para el Diseño (CyAD) de la UAM-A al tiempo que se evidencia su vigencia y pertinencia para atender las problemáticas en el campo del diseño.

Urban stories and representations in the cultural memory of the Main Square of Tunja, Colombia

The relations between history and memory in the urban space inherited from the Main Square of Tunja, Colombia, are questioned during the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century, and the monumental, urban and architectural representations related to the processes of independence and revolution that impacted on the foundation of the Colombian state. The model of inquiry is inductive and qualitative, and involved the integration of historical and historiographical sources that were subjected to processes of analysis, reflection, and explanatory synthesis. As a result of this work, the narratives of the changes and prevalences that characterize the urban heritage of this foundational environment decisive for the understanding of urban and cultural history in Colombia are presented.

Las miradas que desde la discapacidad visual se dan, se vinculan –sin duda–, con la semiosis desde cierta acción, comportamiento o desarrollo que implica a los signos y su significado. La ablepsia congénita, como otra variedad perceptiva podría considerarse como una modalidad que tergiversa los conceptos visuales ante una reinterpretación de los acontecimientos. Sin embargo, también propone nuevas significaciones desde la subjetividad ante la realidad y/o la objetividad visual, conformándose otras realidades generadas ante la concepción de las cosas y del mundo en la indagación de los detalles de éstas y en el que la “vivencia” de las imágenes mentales se presentan para el ciego congénito como parte de sí o de otra realidad. Por lo tanto, ¿qué sentido le dan a los “signos” del entorno? y cómo estos son proveedores de información valiosa para concebir el ser y estar en un contexto en el que la oscuridad es permanente y la que los sonidos, olores, sabores y texturas lo orientan en lo no visual.

El objetivo de este texto es identificar los elementos de los actos de habla y la pragmática lingüística, que tienen que ver con procesos de significación e intención en la enunciación de un texto dramático-escénico o de algún personaje, pensando en las actividades de doblaje, radio-drama, videojuegos, audiolibros y la escena misma. Desarrollando, desde una visión transdisciplinaria la interacción de diferentes campos del conocimiento, como lo son el teatro, la semiótica y la lingüística e incluso todas aquellas disciplinas humanas que comprenden el habla y su interés en los procesos de comunicación. Las repercusiones de este análisis pueden recaer directamente en la formación y desempeño actoral, favoreciendo procesos de análisis de texto, en función a un enriquecimiento de la expresión comunicativa de actores y actrices.

Capability approach and life course cube applied to the migration of skilled women

A proposal is developed to integrate Amartya Sen's Capabilities Approach and the study of life trajectories, represented in the life course cube of Bernardi et al. (2019), taking as an empirical example the couple migration the skilled women. The life curse cube allows the visualization of the interdependencies between (1) the temporality of women's life course and the historical moment where the migration process occurs, (2) the individual, social, and environmental conversion factors that provide or restrict their ability to achieve those functionings they consider of value to their lives and how they exercise their agency to achieve their well-being, and (3) the micro, meso and macro levels of interaction that together connect life domains over time from the individual environment, the social relationships and considering external societal structures.

Modular ontology to support manufacturing SMEs toward industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 (I4.0) implementation is a hot topic among manufacturing organizations to reach smart factory status and integrate a fully connected ecosystem. Achieving such a transition presents notable challenges for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) since they often face resource and skilled personnel limitations. This study developed a domain ontology to represent various stages of maturity toward I4.0 implementation. Ontology provides a tool for SMEs to self-assess in situations of machines, processes, and factories for the dimensions of control, integration, and intelligence. This study focused on the identification of classes and relationships according to I4.0 implementation situations in the context of a manufacturing setting, the reuse of ontologies related to the domain of observations to model situations, and the creation and validation of the ontology through the information obtained from the questionnaires applied to SMEs. Finally, the ontology delivers a tool to understand SMEs' current state concerning I4.0 implementation and plan based on informed decisions about the maturity state and the technology required to advance to the next stage in their manufacturing processes.

Abduction according to Peirce: reflections from the south on the crisis of representation brought on by COVID-19

In this article, I reflect on the importance of abductive thinking for processes of material and conceptual reinvention in the context of the current public health crisis. Inseparable from the climate change engulfing the planet, this crisis provides the basis for a semiotic revolution. Therefore, I interrogate Peirce’s work without losing sight of my own time and place of interlocution. COVID-19 has brought with it a crisis of representation which, in contrast to that unleashed by the Holocaust and World War II, and to which the Frankfurt School responded, demands responses from the Global South. Beginning from Dussel’s call to defend life as a matter of ethical urgency in the face of its irresponsible objectification within colonial capitalist modernity –which arguably triggered the pandemic–, I trace a “nocturnal map” that registers the present meaning-making crisis, and allows for a reimagining and remaking of the world from elsewhere.
