Geospatial analysis of the distribution of empty spaces located in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas

Reflect about urban empty spaces means looking around all these lots that are distributed in different geographical points of the cities and are characterized because they are still waiting to be built, therefore, they are vacant, and also these spaces are empty in the sense of not provide any function. In this sense, the objective of this article is to present a methodological proposal specially designed to study this type of urban elements from the particular point of view of urban geography and spatial analysis. Specifically, through a series of surveys, both digital and physical, the various urban voids located in the city of Nuevo Laredo were recorded, thereby creating a database that included a total of 3,836 case studies. In this way, using different types of statistical techniques and spatial models, it was possible to obtain and interpret the results, managing to identify exactly what were the main patterns and characteristics of said geographic distribution.

This article tries to link the immigration policies of the United States and Mexico with the narrative developed by Michel Foucault. It shows how racism is the axis on which the State of biopower exercises its claims and its effects of power on bodies and on life. Thus, the current political rationality goes through the management of the living body of people, their health, and their spatiality. This principle extends to the homicidal function of the State. Two events that occurred on the Chihuahua border demonstrate this.

Resumen:

El siguiente articulo presenta una reflexión antropológica y urbana centrada en la vida diaria y los principales problemas incluyendo: el impacto de las caravanas de migrantes, y cuestiones urbanas en Tijuana durante los años 2018 – 2021. En adición, el articulo aborda otros temas importantes como: el impacto de la pandemia del COVID-19, y los patrones socioculturales históricos desarrollados para sobrevivir las condiciones de desigualdad económica en Tijuana. A nivel metodológico, el articulo utilizó un enfoque cualitativo basado en experiencias de trabajo de campo que incluyeron observación participante y múltiples entrevistas realizadas a residentes durante distintas visitas a Tijuana, Baja California, México entre los años 2018-2021. Las conclusiones de este articulo presentan una reflexión para entender y hacer visible las condiciones de vida de los migrantes, los esfuerzos brindados por una organización de migrantes y el estilo de vida único y problemas urbanos contemporáneos desarrollados en la ciudad fronteriza de Tijuana.

The following article presents a brief anthropological and historical reflection based on the Cuban community in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, México. Additionally, we discuss important historical aspects that have contributed to the development of the Cuban community in El Paso, TX-Ciudad Juárez, CH border, such as the migrant caravans that occurred between 2017-2019 and the migratory policies that have been put into effect. Furthermore, we present an ethnographic analysis on the migration experience of certain participants, placing an emphasis on created networks, and expanding on the concept of community through spatial solidarity and survival in Ciudad Juárez.

En México, como en otros países en desarrollo, el conocimiento sobre el grado de contaminación y sus efectos en los ecosistemas locales se ha generado siguiendo objetivos de investigación específicos que emplean metodologías de distinta naturaleza. Dado que aún existen vacíos de información en el tema, es importante impulsar el uso generalizado de pruebas ecotoxicológicas que empleen protocolos estandarizados y que sirvan como herramientas regulatorias para establecer medidas integrales de protección al ambiente. Por lo anterior, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo demostrar, a través de ejercicios de intercalibración, previo desarrollo de talleres de homologación de capacidades, el potencial de los protocolos de ensayo con Daphina magna y Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata (antes Selenastrum capricornutum) para generar resultados confiables en laboratorios con poca experiencia en este campo. Esto permitirá impulsar el empleo de herramientas bioanalíticas en México para el monitoreo ambiental, las cuales favorecen la evaluación integral de los problemas de contaminación en los cuerpos de agua. Los resultados de los ejercicios de calibración interna de los laboratorios demostraron que en un corto plazo es posible lograr una repetibilidad aceptable en las pruebas y un desempeño adecuado de los protocolos, lo cual apoya la idea de que estos protocolos son pertinentes para su empleo en programas de monitoreo ambiental, aún en países donde actualmente se cuenta con pocos recursos humanos capacitados y laboratorios aptos para tal fin.

La exclusión en las interacciones del estudiantado de media superior, en escuelas de la ciudad de Hermosillo: sus implicaciones en la formación

La exclusión constituye un fenómeno complejo que se manifiesta en diversos órdenes y dimensiones de la vida social. La investigación que se presenta a continuación, atiende al ámbito formativo y al ámbito relacional de la exclusión. Su principal objetivo es analizar la exclusión que se desarrolla en la escuela, a través de las interacciones del estudiantado de Educación Media Superior, en el aula y en diversos espacios de la institución escolar; para comprender las posibles implicaciones de esas situaciones de exclusión en la formación escolar de los y las estudiantes.

Desde el punto de vista teórico se recurre a las aportaciones del interaccionismo simbólico y al concepto de intersubjetividad, para articular los tres conceptos ejes en los que se sustenta el análisis: interacción-exclusión-formación.

Para desarrollar el estudio se adoptó un enfoque mixto y una estrategia secuencial explicativa con una primera etapa metodológica en la que se aplicó un cuestionario sociométrico para identificar situaciones de exclusión y rechazo en los grupos escolares. Posteriormente se desarrolló una segunda etapa de carácter cualitativo, en la que se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas a aquellas y aquellos que fueron identificados/as como excluidos/as o rechazados/as por sus pares en el grupo escolar.

La muestra fue seleccionada por conveniencia. Se trabajó con un total de 293 estudiantes distribuidos en nueve grupos de segundo, cuarto y sexto semestre; pertenecientes a tres escuelas de la ciudad de Hermosillo, dos preparatorias privadas y una pública.

Los resultados muestran las diversas formas que adopta la exclusión en las interacciones del estudiantado, sus principales características: ¿cómo se excluyen?, ¿por qué?, los roles que desempeñan los sujetos, la dimensión afectivo-emocional, así como los sentidos y significados que construyen los y las jóvenes en torno a estas experiencias.

The context of migration in the Mexican case and its migration policies are analyzed here, taking the case of Ciudad Juarez as a node of movement and link of said policies; for this, the work is divided into four sections. A historical review of the way of how migration policies, through programs operated by different institutions and spheres of government, have worked through the manifestations of the domestic and international Mexican migration it is proposed. It also serves to contextualize and to understand how they are created and why the objectives they intend to meet are more orientated to immediate problems rather to recognize the complexity of migratory problems, in need of specific policies.

De Novo assembly and annotation of the Pacific calico scallop (Argopecten ventricosus) transcriptome for immune-related gene discovery

"Invertebrates' immune defense mechanisms play a critical role in pathogen recognition and elimination. De novo assembly and annotation of the Argopecten ventricosus transcriptome were performed for the immune-related gene identification. Scallops (height: 4.4 cm) were challenged with inactivated Vibrio parahaemolyticus IPNGS16. The RNA from different tissues was pooled for a single cDNA library construction sequenced by NextSeq 500 platform 2×75 paired‐end chemistry. Before de novo assembling with Trinity, reads were analyzed with FastQC, Trimmomatic, and Prinseq. Assembled sequences were analyzed by CD-HIT-EST and TransDecoder. The corresponding annotation was performed against NCBI-nr, RefSeq protein, and KAAS (KEGG) databases. The Trinity assembly yielded 107,516 contigs. TransDecoder yielded 25,285 sequences as CDSs of which, 16,123 were annotated against the NCBI-nr protein, most of them scored with Crassostrea gigas data. Gene ontology mapped sequences (15,262) were classified in molecular functions (~13,000), cellular components (~11,000), and biological processes (~13,000). The KAAS analysis showed biological categories for metabolism (13%), cellular processes (12%), genetic information processing (10%), organismal systems (19%), environmental information (13%), and human diseases (33 %). Within the organismal systems, 467 immune-related genes (KO) were identified. Sixty-four immune-related genes were annotated/blasted against the NCBI-nr and RefSeq protein databases. An RT-qPCR was performed to analyze the expression level of immune-related genes obtained in the transcriptome analysis in scallops (height 4.5 cm) treated with probiotic bacilli added to culture water. Bacilli significantly increased the expression of the HSP70 and PGRP genes. The gene transcripts analysis of A. ventricosus will better understand its immune response against pathogens in culture systems."
